International Gymnastics Hall of Fame Site

 

The Beginning
Vitaly Scherbo was introduced to gymnastics at the age of 7. His first international performance was in 1990-1991, when he competed for the USSR team at the World Championship and the World Cup. He was the 1991 World All-Around silver medalist. He scored a perfect 10.0 on vault at the European Championships in 1990 and starred at the Goodwill Games in Seattle.

Winning the Gold
In one of the most dominant performances in history, in the 1992 Summer Olympics, Vitaly Scherbo won 6 out of the possible 8 awarded gold medals in the following events: Team, All-Around, Pommel Horse, Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars.
Relocating to the United States, Scherbo followed up on his Olympic triumph by winning the 1993 World All Around Title and teh 1993 and 1994 American Cup. Scherbo won another World title in 1996; at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Scherbo aquired 4 bronze medals in the following events: All-Around, Vault, Parallel Bars, Horizontal Bar. Scherbo was inducted into the Hall of Fame in May 2009.

The School
Scherbo moved to Las Vegas, Nevada seeing an opportunity for a gymnastics school. The Vitaly Scherbo School of Gymnastics (VSSG) opened in November 1998. The facility is equiped to include tumble tracks, foam training pits, trampoline, and much more. The school includes gym sizes for students 16 months - 18 years of age and opportunities for competitive teams for both men and women.
